Renewable Energy Day
ASPEN, COLORADO - SATURDAY AUGUST 26th, 2006 Aspen’s Cooper Street Mall
The public was invited to participate and join
a local, regional
and, national energy revolution promoting effective
solutions to the urgent challenges of global
warming. Some of the nation's most respected
policymakers, business leaders, renewable energy
advocates and experts attended.
Aspen Mayor Helen Klanderud
and Boulder Mayor Mark Ruzzin joined in a presentation
outlining steps their city's are taking to develop
renewable energy resources and reduce carbon
emissions.
FREE presentations and displays
by world-renowned renewable energy experts,
businesses and non-profit organizations were
present.
A Hydrogen Hummer was on
display.
The "NREL REnEEW" ...renewable
energy museum on wheels was displayed
as well as many other examples of energy efficiency
and renewable energy technologies.
The Flying
Dog Bluegrass Band provided the live music.
FREE ice cream and a bungee
tramp was provided for the kids at Wagner Park.
It was a FUN day for the
entire family.
A keynote address by former CO Senator Gary
Hart titled
"Energy Independence, National Security & Renewable
Energy" was featured in Paepcke Auditorium
at the Aspen Institute.
Followed by Amory Lovins of the
Rocky Mountain Institute and a panel discussion
moderated by ASPO founder and CORE director
Randy Udall.
Panelists included:
Michael Bowman, National
Steering Committee member of the 25x'25 initiative.
Karen Hyde, Managing Director of Resource
Planning and Acquisitions for Xcel Energy's “Large
Utilities and Renewable Energy Opportunities”.
Pat Spears, President
of the Intertribal Council On Utility Policy
on “Tribal Wind Potential”.
